San Marino MotoGP, Misano MotoGP results, Fabio Quartararo, Marc Marquez

Published

on

Marc Marquez may have been the winner at Misano, but Petronas Yamaha SRT rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo was the standout — and proved his status as the next big thing.

While he failed to claim his maiden MotoGP victory on Sunday, 20-year-old Quartararo demonstrated his mettle on the biggest stage as he held off seven-time world champion Marquez until the final lap in the San Marino MotoGP.

The pace Quartararo produced on race day shouldn’t have come as a surprise, with the Yamaha package proving the class of the field all weekend.

2019 Bathurst 1000: Penrite Racing return Reynolds/Youlden entry to track after working ‘their arses off’

Published

on

They pulled an all-nighter and “worked their arses off” to get there, but the Penrite Racing crew managed to get the #9 entry out on Friday following Luke Youlden’s heavy Thursday crash.

One of the pre-race favourites, the #9 ZB Commodore was reduced to bits and pieces after Youlden crashed heavily at Sulman Park during Practice 2. The crash registered almost 20G, with veteran Youlden — who is making his 20th Bathurst start this weekend — sent for a concussion test.

Youlden put the crash out of his mind to set the 12th fastest time in Practice 4 on Friday morning with a 2:05.8818s best, with stablemate Will Brown the only driver to break the 2:05s barrier in the co-drivers only session.

Bathurst 1000: Wildcard IndyCar stars Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe discuss ‘challenging’ day

Published

on

Day one done at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, and for IndyCar stars Alexander Rossi and James Hinchcliffe in their wildcard entry, it was a “baptism of fire”.

The North Americans had a clean day on track, unlike several others, with three teams counting the cost of heavy Thursday accidents — including race fancies Penrite Racing following Luke Youlden’s heavy shunt. The other wildcard from Kostecki Brothers Racing didn’t make it out for Practice 3 after Jake Kostecki crashed in Practice 2.

While Rossi and Hinchcliffe had “a lot to sleep on” after finishing the opening day at the bottom of the timesheets, the optimism is still there, having just three days of testing at Winton to prepare, which was scaled back to two after a crash.

Published

on

A decisive day at Mount Panorama is underway: qualifying day.

The threat of rain could jumble the field, and after Thursday’s record pace, Friday will be all about mistake minimisation in the quest to reach Saturday’s Top 10 Shootout.

Two practice sessions will kickstart the day, but the 40-minute qualifying session will set positions 11-26 for Sunday’s race, with the 10 fastest runners making it into the race for pole on Saturday afternoon.
