It took 10 games, but Jamie Maclaren finally broke his duck to score his maiden Socceroos goal.

The diminutive striker got on the end of Tom Rogic’s cross to head home in the 18th minute against Palestine, giving the Socceroos a well-earned lead.

Maclaren had been under pressure, particularly after a groin injury to Andrew Nabbout left Graham Arnold little choice but to persist with the Hibernian forward.

But Maclaren got off to an embarrassing start when, just three minutes into the crucial clash, his air swing saw him miss a glorious opportunity to score.
