F1 news 2018: Haas confident against Daniel Ricciardo’s Renault in 2019, Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull

Published

on

Haas have vowed to beat rivals Renault in the ‘best of the rest’ category in 2019 after the team’s boss Gunther Steiner blamed finishing fifth this year on too many mistakes.

The American-owned outfit finished just 29 points behind Renault after the two teams were locked in a close battle all season.

Haas are expected to improve again next season but with Renault’s increased spending and the addition of top-six driver Daniel Ricciardo, it will be a more difficult prospect than before.

F1 news 2018: Sebastian Vettel on Charles Leclerc problems, Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen, Daniel Ricciardo, 2019 schedule

Published

Sebastian Vettel has insisted he foresees no problems with new Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in 2019 after four years with Kimi Raikkonen by his side.

The German formed a good relationship with Raikkonen on and off-track as he enjoyed a comfortable advantage over his teammate in his quest to wrestle the world championship from Lewis Hamilton.

However, the arrival of a young and hungry Leclerc, who has been tipped to immediately challenge Vettel’s position, could cause problems between the two.

F1 news 2018: Daniel Ricciardo only start for Renault, Nico Hulkenberg, 2019 regulations, prediction, schedule

Adding Daniel Ricciardo as a driver must only be the start of Renault’s levels of ambition, insists Nico Hulkenberg, who is expecting further progress from the team in 2019.

Renault ended 2018 as the best of the rest behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull but never showed the pace to actually challenge the big three for a podium, with their best finish in a grand prix being fifth.

The French car manufacturer has invested heavily to try and bridge that gap and Hulkenberg has stressed the importance of doing this over the European winter and that they must take advantage of the opportunities afforded by a big regulation change to the aerodynamics.

F1 news 2018: Carlos Sainz hits out at Red Bull copy claims, McLaren plan, 2019 chassis, schedule

Published

on

Carlos Sainz has hit back at Red Bull by insisting that McLaren will not be copying Red Bull’s chassis concept to improve the use of their Renault engine for the 2019 season.

McLaren were poor in 2018 and only the driving ability of the now-departed Fernando Alonso, who earned 50 of the team’s 62 points, prevented them from finishing lower than they arguably should have.

It was their first year with a Renault engine after splitting from Honda, who will now be providing Red Bull’s power for 2019, and because they struggled to compete so badly, it had been suggested that McLaren may emulate parts of the Milton Keynes-based outfit.
