F1 news 2018: Daniel Ricciardo’s toughest year, Red Bull results, Monaco win, Renault move, video watch

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo has revealed his final season at Red Bull has been the hardest of his career as he prepares to join Renault in the New Year.

The Aussie finished his time with the Milton Keynes outfit at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi last weekend, agonisingly finishing fourth to just miss out on a podium to celebrate his Red Bull exit.

It was just the latest frustration in a season of them for Ricciardo, who suffered eight retirements in total to cut short any chance he had going into the mid-season break of challenging for the championship.

F1 news 2018: Max Verstappen on Honda engine fears, Red Bull, blow up, 2019 results, schedule, latest

Max Verstappen says he does not mind if his Honda engine “blows up” next season, as long as he is given more opportunities to win races.

Red Bull are ending their Renault partnership to switch to Honda and Verstappen is itching to start F1 2019 already, saying it’s clear the team’s new engine partners already have more horsepower.

There are, however, still concerns about the reliability of the Honda PU – Toro Rosso picked up more grid penalties than any other team in 2018, while Pierre Gasly suffered a failure at the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP.

Formula 1 esports: Gaming to motorsport pathway, McLaren Shadow, how next generation of F1 stars may come from gaming

Published

on

There will always be a gap, for many, between esports and traditional sports.

The simplest reason is that most of the time, video games can never fully simulate reality. The best FIFA players in the world would look stupid on a football pitch, for example.

But one notable exception is in motorsport, where professional drivers have essentially been playing games (in simulators) to get ready for races for years.

So is it really out of the realms of possibility that a future Formula 1 world champion will come from esports?

Teams like McLaren are hoping to find that next great star in any way they can, which has led them to creating the Shadow Project – their esports initiative.

F1 news 2018: Daniel Ricciardo’s Max Verstappen relationship at Red Bull, 2019 predictions, Renault, Honda engine

Published

on

Daniel Ricciardo has admitted he expected his relationship with now former-Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen to be a lot worse than it was.

The duo spent nearly three years together at the Milton Keynes-based outfit after Verstappen was promoted from Toro Rosso to replace Daniil Kvyat mid-season in 2016.

They have come across as good friends off the track but have shared some intense on-track moments, like battling for victory of the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2016 and their infamous crash in Baku earlier this year.
