Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull plea ‘give me a chance’: F1 China Grand Prix

Published

on

DANIEL Ricciardo believes his stunning Chinese GP victory proves he would win a Formula 1 world title if given the right tools.

In a chaotic and action-packed finish in Shanghai, Ricciardo rose from sixth to the lead in less than 20 laps in an advance which included stunning overtakes on Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas.

For all his talent this was only Ricciardo’s sixth F1 win, his emergence coinciding with Red Bull’s post-2013 dip, but the Australian is desperate for more so he can maximise his talent and fight for championships.

“It’s a fun way to win for sure,” Ricciardo, out of contract at Red Bull at the end of the season, told Sky F1. “I really feel like, just give me a chance to be in a title hunt and I really believe I’ll take it.

“I feel I can capitalise on opportunities and I guess today was a good example.”

PLENTY of work lies ahead of Ford, Tickford Racing and DJR Team Penske before there can be a race-ready Supercars version of the iconic Mustang.

One of the key parts of that will be actually fitting the 2018 Mustang body shape over the top of the standard New Generation Supercars chassis introduced at the start of the 2013 season.

DJR Team Penske managing director Ryan Story explained to Supercars Trackside just what needs to be done to make it fit.

Supercars: Phillip Island tyre punctures still a risk in 2018

Published

on

DUNLOP says Supercars teams have been made aware there is still the risk of punctures at this weekend’s WD-40 Phillip Island 500 despite the championship ditching the tyres that caused so much havoc 12 months ago.

Last year’s race weekend was blighted by almost 20 punctures across Friday practice and both days of racing, with Supercars and Dunlop issuing new minimum pressure guidelines to teams on Sunday morning.

Although it has reverted to an older shape of tyre that has done many Supercars miles around every track in Australia — including extensive testing at Phillip Island last September — Dunlop has warned teams that there is still the potential for punctures this weekend if they get too aggressive with their setups.

Daniel Ricciardo issues Red Bull F1 warning

Published

on

DANIEL Ricciardo has warned his sensational Chinese GP win will not in isolation be enough for him to sign a new contract at Red Bull.

The Australian, out of contract at the end of the season, did his negotiating position no harm by claiming Red Bull’s first win of the season after taking advantage of their change of strategy under the Safety Car to overtake five drivers in the space of nine laps.

Red Bull chief Christian Horner said after his driver’s victory: “If we can give him a car like we did today, why would he want to be anywhere else?”

But Ricciardo, who turns 29 in July and has said on several occasions he feels ready to win a world championship, said he needs the Shanghai result to be the rule rather than the exception.
