NHL, news: Nathan Walker, Washington Capitals, Ice Hockey Classic

Published

THINGS must seem strangely normal for Nathan Walker right now.

Playing for the Hershey Bears, chasing his NHL dream, just like he has since he was a boy.

As a 13 year-old Aussie boy, lying in bed in a strange Czech town, he probably dreamt about scoring a goal in the big show.

AUSTRALIAN ice hockey player Nathan Walker has joined Team USA for the 2018 Ice Hockey Classic.

The series will see Team USA face Team Canada in a three-game series across Australia, with Walker set to play in the Sydney and Adelaide legs.

A Brisbane leg will also take place, but Walker won’t take part in it because of his upcoming wedding.

Walker, who made headlines in late 2017, when he became the first Australian to play and register a goal in the NHL, said he’s excited to have the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd.

“It was an honour to be asked to be involved in this very important tour, over the past four years I have watched the Ice Hockey Classic grow into a professional event that is helping develop the game in Australia.” Walker said.

“That’s a discussion we have to have to determine whether or not there is an opportunity to grow the game in China by using the Winter Games with NHL players as a catalyst.
