Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has been admitted under extreme secrecy to a Paris hospital to be treated with a cutting-edge stem-cell therapy, according to a French newspaper.

The Paris hospitals authority, citing France’s strict medical privacy rules, said it could not comment on the report in Le Parisien that Schumacher was admitted on Monday under tight guard to the Georges-Pompidou hospital, with transfusions of stem cells scheduled.

The newspaper said the 50-year-old was expected to be discharged on Wednesday and that the transfusions would help to reduce inflammation. His long-time manager Sabine Kehm did not respond to emailed requests for comment.

A remorseful Jamie Whincup has reflected on his controversial Sunday at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

Seven-time series champion Whincup levelled criticism at Race Control following his role in the Safety Car debacle which soured Race 24.

Whincup started the race from pole position, but finished 16th following an early-race drive-through penalty for breaching Safety Car regulations.

Jamie Whincup will be issued with a ‘please explain’ from Australian motorsport’s governing body following comments made after the controversial Race 24 at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) will issue a letter to the Red Bull Holden driver after he criticised race officials following a Safety Car controversy in Sunday’s race at Pukekohe.

The 36-year-old will be given the opportunity to respond to CAMS’ letter before any possible sanctions are handed down.

The Safety Car drama in Race 24 at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint shot several teams in the foot, none on a greater scale than Tickford Racing.

Chaz Mostert claimed a podium finish, but Will Davison, Cameron Waters and Lee Holdworth filled positions 13 through 15.

It was a kick in the guts for the Ford squad, with all four cars reaching the Top 10 Shootout.
