Report: Nuggets add Jerami Grant in trade with Thunder

Published

on

The Denver Nuggets have acquired forward Jerami Grant from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a 2020 first-round pick, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Grant is fresh off the most productive season of his five-year career. He posted career-high averages of 13.6 points and 5.2 rebounds over 80 games for the Thunder last season. The 25-year-old will provide length and defensive versatility to a Nuggets squad with their eyes on contending for a championship.

Oklahoma City adds another first-round pick to its stash after acquiring five from the LA Clippers in the reported deal for Paul George. The deal will also save the Thunder $39 million in salary, according to Wojnarowski.

Report: Ben Simmons agrees to five-year, maximum contract extension with 76ers

Published

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a five-year, $170 million maximum contract extension with Ben Simmons, according to his agent Rich Paul who told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The 22-year-old guard averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists over 79 games last season to earn his first All-Star selection. The former No. 1 overall pick missed his entire rookie season in 2016 with a foot injury. But he bounced back to win the Kia Rookie of the Year award during his debut season in 2017-18.

The Sixers have their eyes set on championship contention after they added veteran Al Horford in free agency this summer. Simmons, along with center Joel Embiid, will be critical to the Sixers as they look to rise to the top of the East over the coming years.

Simmons reportedly won’t participate with Team USA during the FIBA World Cup this summer as he plans to use the time to instead prepare for the 2019-20 NBA season.

Report: Anthony Davis withdraws from USA Basketball training camp, FIBA World Cup

Team USA will report to training camp in August, ahead of September’s FIBA Basketball World Cup.

But they’ll reportedly do so without All-NBA center Anthony Davis, per a report by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Davis — who would also pull himself out of the player pool for the competition — will instead focus “the bulk of his offseason on preparing for a championship run” with the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he officially joined July 6 following a protracted courting.

Davis, who has averaged 23.7 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in his seven seasons with New Orleans, won a gold medal representing USA Basketball at the 2012 London Olympics ahead of his rookie year. He has since earned three All-NBA First Team and six All-Star appearances.

Haynes wrote the decision had been confirmed by Davis’ agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.
