F1 2019, news: Sebastian Vettel penalty, Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo

Published

on

It was a poor decision from the stewards to hand an in-race five-second penalty to Sebastian Vettel in Montreal.

I don’t believe a penalty was due, but even so they could have investigated it after the race with the benefit of more time and data, and after speaking with both drivers.

I am not going to beat up on the stewards, they have the regulations, knowledge, footage, data, process and precedents to follow. You have to have rules and a referee otherwise you have anarchy and the whole thing would fall over.

Jamie Whincup will be issued with a ‘please explain’ from Australian motorsport’s governing body following comments made after the controversial Race 24 at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) will issue a letter to the Red Bull Holden driver after he criticised race officials following a Safety Car controversy in Sunday’s race at Pukekohe.

The 36-year-old will be given the opportunity to respond to CAMS’ letter before any possible sanctions are handed down.

The Safety Car drama in Race 24 at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint shot several teams in the foot, none on a greater scale than Tickford Racing.

Chaz Mostert claimed a podium finish, but Will Davison, Cameron Waters and Lee Holdworth filled positions 13 through 15.

It was a kick in the guts for the Ford squad, with all four cars reaching the Top 10 Shootout.

San Marino MotoGP, Misano MotoGP results, Fabio Quartararo, Marc Marquez

Published

Marc Marquez may have been the winner at Misano, but Petronas Yamaha SRT rookie sensation Fabio Quartararo was the standout — and proved his status as the next big thing.

While he failed to claim his maiden MotoGP victory on Sunday, 20-year-old Quartararo demonstrated his mettle on the biggest stage as he held off seven-time world champion Marquez until the final lap in the San Marino MotoGP.

The pace Quartararo produced on race day shouldn’t have come as a surprise, with the Yamaha package proving the class of the field all weekend.
